These tests are important and serve as health screens for our elderly pets.  Often times they can reveal abnormalities that are treatable if caught early.  Dogs and cats are very good at masking illness!  The blood screen will look closely at specific internal organ function while the urine can trace diseases like diabetes, kidney problems, infections or crystals.  Routine fecals can reveal parasites that result in weight loss, while xrays can examine the chest or abdominal cavities in great detail. 

These tests enable us to be more pro-active with our beloved pet's health. Minimally, we recommend a blood and urine test annually after the age of 7 for early detection of disease.

Basic Puppy and Kitten Packages

In order to give puppies and kittens the best start in life, a series of 3 vaccines, dewormer, and flea control are very important. Typically the series of vaccines start at 8 weeks of age and should continue at 12 and 16 weeks of age to protect against some common deadly diseases.  The rabies vaccine is not due until 16 weeks of age. The puppy or kitten's maternal antibodies are waning by 8 weeks of age and it is during this time that they are very suseptible to infections. In puppies, parvo virus, distemper or parainfluenza are serious threats to health.  In kittens, herpes, calici virus and rhinotracheitis are common. 

At Valley Center Veterinary Clinic, we have created a puppy and kitten package for your convenience.  When you come for your first visit, the package can be purchased (which includes a 20% savings, or $50 value).  The package includes:

• 3 exams
• All three vaccine boosters at 8,12 and 16 weeks
• Rabies at 16 weeks of age

• Spay or neuter discounted at 20 weeks of age (if booked at time of first visit)
